Central Coast Lifestyle
Over 200 wineries, world-class farm-to-table dining, fresh Pacific seafood, and a food culture rooted in the land. This is one of the best places to eat and drink in California.
Wine Country & Beyond
People who haven't spent time on the Central Coast are often surprised by the food and wine scene here. Paso Robles has become one of the most talked-about wine regions in California. SLO's restaurant scene punches well above its weight. And the seafood — fresh off the boats in Morro Bay — is as good as it gets on the California coast.
The agricultural abundance of SLO County — strawberries, stone fruit, vegetables, olive oil, and of course wine grapes — means that farm-to-table isn't a marketing term here. It's just how people eat.
Wine Regions
With over 200 wineries and 40+ grape varieties, Paso Robles is one of the most exciting wine regions in California. The Westside is known for elegant Rhône-style wines; the Eastside produces bold Cabernets and Zinfandels. The downtown square is surrounded by tasting rooms, and the wine trail extends into the hills in every direction.
Just south of SLO, the Edna Valley is one of California's coolest wine regions — literally. The marine influence from Morro Bay creates ideal conditions for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. A handful of excellent wineries make this a perfect half-day wine country excursion from SLO.
Dining
Morro Bay's Embarcadero is lined with seafood restaurants serving the freshest catch on the Central Coast. Dungeness crab, oysters, and local fish — straight from the boats in the harbor.
See Local FavoritesSan Luis Obispo has a strong farm-to-table dining culture, driven by Cal Poly's agriculture program and the abundance of local farms. The restaurant scene punches well above its weight for a city of 50,000.
Explore SLOThe blocks around the Paso Robles downtown square have developed into a genuine dining destination — winemaker dinners, farm-fresh menus, and restaurants that draw visitors from across the state.
